Our first quiz is this week. I will be quizzing you on your receptive skills. This will show if you can process what you have been learning. Don’t worry-you want to know what you have learned- and the areas you need to work on.

*Please bring a sheet of paper numbered 1-10 with space at the bottom for some extra credit and a pencil or pen. Where will this score be recorded-you ask? Right in your pocket. Keep track of your improvement-your own work will hold you accountable. Especially for those of us who have not been in a classroom setting in a while, this will motivate your studying and review time.

I will post the quiz video for those who may miss the class or just for review.

Course Description and Schedule

*Course description

~This course will teach students the foundation skills for American Sign Language (ASL)  Students will learn a signing vocabulary to include: fingerspelling; numbers 1 – 99; Religious signs and Biblical names; colors; animals; some basic verbs and nouns; emotions; family, and foods. They will use vocabulary in meaningful contexts to develop comprehension. Three basic sentence structures will be taught, with plenty of review and practice to allow students to develop confidence. Students completing Sign 1 will have conversational understanding and abilities to interpret small portions of the Service with assistance.

~The focus of level 1 is vocabulary and smooth sign production.

~Classes will meet weekly for 30-45 minutes and review videos will be available online of each lesson taught.  If a class is missed-the review video is available to catch up. Comprehension will be tested at the completion of each lesson.

~Sign 1 will meet weekly with the following schedule:
